Guadalajara, the City of Roses

Guadalajara, The City of Roses

Known as the most Mexican of Mexican cities, Guadalajara is the perfect place to experience authentic Mexican traditions, while enjoying a safe, comfortable Spanish immersion experience.

Many Mexican features and traditions originated in Guadalajara, Mexico's second largest city. They include Mariachi music, tequila, the Mexican rodeo, broad-brimmed sombrero hats and the Mexican Hat Dance. These traditions are still alive and well, and can be seen everywhere.

Part of Guadalajara's appeal is that it has many of the attractions of Mexico City - a vibrant culture, great museums, exciting nightlife and good places to stay and eat - but few of the capital's problems. Guadalajara is bright, modern, well-organized and unpolluted. Visitors can always find interesting things to do. Guadalajara's distinctive mix of modernity and tradition make it an ideal destination for living, studying or just visiting.

Emperor Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor and ruler of much of Europe in the 16th century, gave Guadalajara its charter as "a most loyal and noble city"

Guadalajara celebrated its 450th anniversary in 1992. Throughout the years, the city has grown rich in history, and to this day, many of the most historic and beautiful of Guadalajara's buildings still stand as reminders of the significance Guadalajara has had and continues to have on Mexico.

Some famous Jaliscan landmarks such as the Cathedral of Jalisco, the Teatro Degollado, the Instituto Cultural de Cabañas, recall an old-world atmosphere and a time of provincial elegance.

Blessed with spring-like climate, Guadalajara offers sunshine and warmth twelve months a year. Its central location means that it is accessible to famous resorts and cities such as Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo, Morelia, Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende and Zacatecas.
