Teacher's Biography

Why did you become an ESL teacher?
To help students and new immigrants have an easier time in Canada.

How long have you been teaching English?
Over twelve years.

How long have you been teaching English at VEC?
Over six years.

What was your major in university or college?
Linguistics (UBC), ESL Certificate (VCC).

What do you like best about teaching?
Helping students. This is a continuing challenge. I like using things I learn to explain or define things that other people don't know.

What is your favorite topic to discuss with your students in your class?
The practical use of the things they learn. Also, travel, word history, and general topics.

What is your hobby?
Golf and travel.

What advice do you have for new students?

I have traveled extensively in Europe and North Africa and I understand the fear of being in a foreign country and not knowing the language. I like to help students overcome this fear and use their new language skills productively.

Never be afraid to ask! Remember: there are no bad questions.
