Director of Studies

Director's Biography

Why did you become a Director of Studies?
I was offered the job and felt that it would be a great opportunity to develop new skills both personally and professionally.

How long did you teach at VEC?
Between VEC and VLC, I taught for two years.

How long have you been the Director of Studies?
Since 1999.

Have you taught in foreign countries? How long? Which country?
I taught at our sister school, VLC, in Guadalajara, Mexico for six months when VLC first opened in 1997.

What was your major in University?
Psychology.

What do you like best about your job?
I enjoy meeting people from many different countries. I like learning about other cultures and others’ perspectives on their cultures. Such experiences allow me to also develop new perspectives on my own (Canadian) culture.

What is your favourite topic to discuss with students?
I find counseling students on what classes they should study to be particularly rewarding. Every student has different goals and interests. Some students are not always clear on what classes will best help them to achieve their goals. Helping students plan their classes and seeing their satisfaction as they realize they are coming closer to achieving their goals is a very rewarding experience.

What advice do you have for new students?
If you have a question or a problem, please ask a VEC staff member to help you right away. There are many kind and supportive staff members here and we all want our students to enjoy their experience both at VEC and in Vancouver.
