Elective English Languages CoursesVancouver English Centre normally has 40 to 50 regular English language classes, divided into 16 Grammar levels and 16 Conversation levels. We also offer a number of elective courses. These courses are briefly described below. You can find more detailed information on our main homepage.Pre-TOEICStudents review basic grammar, build vocabulary and develop reading and listening skills. Students do a practice TOEIC test. Intermediate TOEICStudents learn TOEIC test strategies while enhancing their listening comprehension, reading and grammar skills. Students also do practice TOEIC tests.
Advanced TOEICSame as Intermediate TOEIC, but material covered is at a more advanced level. Material studied in Intermediate TOEIC is not repeated in Advanced TOEIC.
Pre-TOEFLStudents review basic grammar, build vocabulary and develop reading and listening skills. Students also do some a practice TOEFL test. Intermediate TOEFLStudents learn TOEFL test strategies while enhancing their reading, writing and grammar skills. Students also do practice TOEFL tests. Super TOEFLEmphasis is placed on developing Computer Based Test (CBT) strategies. Students also enhance their vocabulary and writing skills. Much time is spent in the computer lab. PronunciationStudents learn how to reduce common pronunciation errors and develop more natural intonation and stress patterns. WritingStudents learn how to express and obtain ideas for writing, and develop Western-style writing techniques. The Pre-Business ProgramThe Pre-Business Program helps students prepare for the Business Internship Program and business elective courses. Both the morning and afternoon courses focus on grammar and conversation, and feature business issues. Some of the areas covered are: noun clauses, modals, tenses, presentation skills, and the editing and spelling of written documents. Thisis a four-week, Super-Intensive Program. Prerequisite: Level 4A or 400 TOEIC
The Business Internship ProgramThe Business Internship Program helps people develop the language skills they need to function effectively in an English-speaking work environment. Language skills are developed through many stimulating, communicative activities. The various Super-Intensive courses offered in this program are suitable for a broad range of advanced students. Each course is 4 weeks in length. Many students integrate Business elective courses, such as International Trade and Marketing/Entrepreneurship, into a full time regular program. The Vacation Study ProgramThe Vacation Study Program combines morning classes with afternoon sightseeing and leisure activities. At least one sightseeing activity is usually offered each weekend. This program is offered as a total package, with one fee that includes Tuition, Homestay, Airport Reception, and most Activities. This program is offered in one, two, three, and four-week terms. Minimum Age: 13 years, Other Prerequisites: None TEFL ProgramOur schools in Vancouver and
Guadalajara both offer programs for people who wish to Teach English as
a Foreign Language. You may choose to study in either Canada or Mexico.
