Business Internship students require Study
Permits (student visas), regardless of the length of their programs.
Some students become confused about this because Student Authorizations
are not required for language programs that are three months or less.
The Business Internship Program, however, involves unpaid employment that
is an integral part of the program.
You should obtain a Study Permit before you come to Canada. The Student
Authorization should have an Employment Authorization Attachment, since
you will be working in Canada. You can apply through the closest Canadian
Embassy or Consulate by submitting the following:
An application for a Student Authorization
- 2 passport photos
- The Processing Fee (CAN$125)
- A Letter of Acceptance from VEC
- A brief note, confirming that an Employment Authorization Attachment
is required for the Student Authorization because the Business Internship
Program includes unpaid employment that is an integral part of the program.

It is important to obtain the correct visa before you come to Canada.
If necessary though, it might be possible to obtain
a Study Permit at the Canadian consulate in Seattle, USA. This is
not the normal application method, however.
