Something exciting is always happening at VEC! Here is the latest news.
IMPROVED VISA REGULATIONS The new Immigration and Refugee Protection Act is scheduled to be implemented on June 28, 2002. This is good news for international students.
A temporary resident (visitor) may now study in Canada without a Study Permit (Student Authorization) if the course lasts six months or less. This is especially convenient for students from countries such as Japan, Korea, Germany, and Mexico, who can enter Canada without visas.
Please note that the rules do not change until June 28. In the meantime, people who study in Canada longer than three months need Study Permits. People from some countries also need Visitor Visas to enter Canada.
NEW FEES Some of our fees will be increased a little on June 1. Students who pay their fees in full before then are exempt from fee increases. Click here for details.
NEW BUILDING The planning of our new building is well underway. Our new space is very large, so we will be able to combine everyone from all of the four existing campuses under one roof.
How large is it? Well, at approximately 46,000 square feet, it is almost as large as an NFL football field!
Our new building will have approximately 54 classrooms, a coffee shop, and a computer lab with 65 high-speed stations. Students will be encouraged to use the resource centre and computer lab after school and on weekends.
The new building is located in downtown Vancouver, close to the main branch of the Vancouver Public Library. We will move in as soon as construction is completed in April, 2002.
2002 MOSAIC SCHOLARSHIPS Vancouver English Centre encourages students from all over the world to enjoy a cultural immersion experience in Canada. Although we normally have students from up to 30 different countries, we constantly try to improve the diversity of our student body. Consequently, we frequently offer scholarships to students from specific countries. Click here for the details.
NEW COMPUTERS In our constant struggle to keep up with demand, we have added four more computers to the lab at Vancouver House. We now have 48 computers for students to use. They are all on fiber-optic or DSL connections. We will continue to upgrade and expand our computer collection as time and space permit. Please note that both labs at the Princess Building are open on weekends, from 9:30 to 4:00. The Princess Building only closes on public holidays.
