for Study Abroad Programs

Academic Credit

If you are a college or university student enrolled in a study abroad program, you might be able to earn Academic Credit for your studies. If you are registered in a full load of courses, you might also qualify for a student loan or financial assistance.  Credit for courses taken in any program might be applied toward your degree, or perhaps toward the satisfaction of academic major or minor requirements. This is not guaranteed though, so you should investigate before you go. 

International Standards

There are no international standards for Academic Credit.  Normally, students are required to convince their home institutions that they have successfully completed courses that have suitable standards and policies.  Students usually need to prove that they received good grades in a course or program with appropriate content and standards.  Vancouver English Centre can provide a certificate and detailed transcripts, as well as any other documentation that your institution requires.

Before Leaving

Before leaving, you should discuss your plans with your academic advisor or study abroad counselor to ensure that the credits will apply to your degree.  The registrar, faculty, or overseas studies personnel will usually decide whether or not your program at an overseas institution is acceptable. You may be asked to provide evidence of your studies, such as papers, tests, and certificates.
